The sale or rehoming of these animals is now illegal, and new laws mandate that they be muzzled and leashed in public.
Several people have lost their lives as a result of attacks by these animals.
The manager of Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK), Jan Ross,
expressed concern that the limitations were implemented too quickly, leaving owners of the dogs with few practical choices.
Ms. Ross acknowledged the need for action, but she stated that an XL
presently housed at BARK could no longer be legally rehomed and
would instead be required to reside permanently at the rescue center.
